What to Expect

All volunteers need to provide a DD-214 showing they served in US Armed Forces. An application Veteran Program Handbook must be turned in to the 5th District Court Coordinator Israel Enriquez, requiring a criminal background check. Nothing in the background check is automatically disqualifying except for some felonies and child abuse history. We have mentors that completed the Veterans Court process mentoring. Mentors have to complete the training videos and an interview with the Veterans Mentor Coordinator and the Veterans Court Coordinator which are strictly confidential.

You will be asked to attend Veterans Court at Twin Fall County Courthouse every Tuesday at 430 p.m., sharp, most court sessions last between 15 minutes to one hour.

There are four phases that the veteran must complete in one year. When you are assigned a Veteran, we ask that you stay with that veteran until he graduates from Veterans Court which will be a period of one year to 14 months.

Your commitment should be at least one hour a week with your veteran log on the veteransmentor.org website and you show up to Court on Tuesdays.

The Mentor will be expected to engage and communicate with your assigned veteran but please remember that anything the veteran tells you confidentiality must be respected unless the veteran indicates that he might endanger and/or injure another person or himself.

The veterans’ trust does not come easy and you must ensure the veteran that you have the discipline not to relay and/or repeat information discussed in confidential conversations. This trust is essential for the integrity of the Mentor Corp and any information in detail should only be conveyed to the court only if the veteran requests that you do so.

Mentors will meet once a month for updates and get-togethers and get to know other mentors and if there are any questions or concerns you may check with the mentor coordinator.

Veteran mentors provide advice, personal experiences, recommendations, and guidance to veterans.
